Dear 5R families,
We’re looking forward to welcoming you on Thursday to our celebration of Literary Essays!
I wanted to update you on our Exhibition work. Students are deep into their self-directed learning and the topics are fascinating. We have students inquiring into everything from the psychology of color, to agriculture on Mars, to carpentry techniques and designing systems for barter and exchange. So exciting!
While the exhibition itself is still over a month away, we’ve got a very busy road before then. This is very much a time of year when there will be ongoing work happening at both school and home. Students will need to regularly sign in to their ZIS accounts from home, so they can access their Google Drive and Classroom, to continue their work.
This week is the tail end of preliminary research. Students should have completed the bulk of this by the holiday. If not, it will certainly need to be completed over the holiday.
After the holiday, we will have a week of developing projects, the various websites, books, essays, presentations, experiments, lessons and more that students will use to experience and explore their topics in another manner. Then, we’ll have one week of developing presentation materials and plans, before we hit the exhibition itself.
In the meantime, please do continue to have an active conversation with your child regarding their exhibition research and progress. You are welcome to get involved in constructively supporting their deadlines and priorities. For a snapshot on the research questions they’re pursuing, and how they’ve described their research work, please find their information on this document, and speak with them about it!
All students will be pitching and presenting their work this Friday morning. I’m sure they’ll want to practice their pitch to an audience the night before 🙂 Pitches should be around 1 minute in length and include a brief outline of the topic, what students plan to learn, how they’ll learn it and what they think they may do about it.
Thanks for your support!
