German: Schöne Ferien und ein frohes neues Jahr!

Liebe Eltern,

In grade 5 we focused on the theme of communication. The focus was on listening comprehension and extension of verbs and their use in certain everyday situations.
The children have examined the subject from different angles, both orally and in writing: What media did people use back then? And what communication media do we use today? We learned and conjugated new verbs on the subject of communication, talked and wrote about our preferences (Was magst du gerne, lieber oder am liebsten?) and developed small dialogues on well-being (Was hast du denn? Ich habe Halsschmerzen). Another focus were the possessive pronouns and their application in everyday life, like seine Haare sind kurz or ihr Kleid ist schwarz.

In the cohort classes of grade 5 we are working on a theater project called “Hans im Glück”. We wrote a little script about this German fairy tale. We will work the next weeks on the realization of the play. Let us surprise you! In the meantime, why don’t you ask your child which character he likes best and why Hans is happy although he has nothing left?

The German team wishes you and your family a wonderful winter holiday!
Stay healthy and a happy new year 2019!

Food Drive in G5

The Grade 5 winter party will take place on Friday, December 14, 10:30 to 12:30, with the whole grade joining together to share the event.

This year we will be incorporating a small community service project into the winter party. We are asking Grade 5 students to bring in non-perishable food items and toiletries for the Swiss Red Cross‘s 2xChristmas program – which offers a holiday distribution here in Switzerland as well as in countries in Eastern Europe. This Swiss Red Cross has been distributing these items for 22 years.

The students will view the following video that provides some insight into the program so that they can understand how their donations will help those in need. This video is in German, but you can add closed-captioning and auto-translate to English.

When deciding what to send in with your child for the community service project, please remember that foodstuffs must have a shelf-life of at least 6 months. Toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, cotton wool, soap and shampoo are also very welcome.

Please make sure your students bring in their items on the week of the winter party!

Please also see the separate post from the PA room parents regarding sending in snacks for the party.

Thanks for your assistance in making this a great Grade 5 year for our children!

Room Parent: year-end-party

Dear Grade 5 Parents,

As the year is drawing to a close, the children will enjoy a year-end-party on

Friday 14th December 2018 from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The party will be a joint Grade 5 event (no parents) with movies being shown in the different class rooms and a snack buffet with treats for all the children from the different classes to share. The aim is for all Grade 5 students to mix and mingle beyond their classroom.

Please consider contributing to the success of the party with treats or your time. Here is the link for the sign-up sheet if you wish to contribute:

The year-end-party will also be the event when room parents will present teachers with a gift as a sign of our appreciation. If you have not yet sent in your contribution of CHF 30 to the class funds please consider doing this now, as the funds will go towards the teacher gifts.

Thank you for your generous support.
