German: Schöne Frühlingsferien!

Liebe Eltern,

In the last few weeks, we have been busy asking for information about our friends. We have been investigating different questions like “Woher kommst du?” (where are you from?), “wie heisst du?” (what’s your name?), “was ist dein Lieblingsfach, dein Lieblingsessen, dein Lieblingssport?” (What is your favourite subject, favourite food, favourite sport?).

Within this unit we also we have deepened our knowledge on the topic of adjectives and possessive pronouns (sein/seine, ihr/ihre, euer/eure, unser/unsere) to be able to describe ourselves and others better.

In the cohort class, we work with different types of texts. At the moment we are looking at “Elfchen” and the children have even written their own spring poem. If you’re curious what exactly an “Elfchen” is, why don’t you ask your child?

Das Deutsch-Team wünscht allen Schülern und Eltern schöne Frühlingssferien.

German: Schöne Ferien und ein frohes neues Jahr!

Liebe Eltern,

In grade 5 we focused on the theme of communication. The focus was on listening comprehension and extension of verbs and their use in certain everyday situations.
The children have examined the subject from different angles, both orally and in writing: What media did people use back then? And what communication media do we use today? We learned and conjugated new verbs on the subject of communication, talked and wrote about our preferences (Was magst du gerne, lieber oder am liebsten?) and developed small dialogues on well-being (Was hast du denn? Ich habe Halsschmerzen). Another focus were the possessive pronouns and their application in everyday life, like seine Haare sind kurz or ihr Kleid ist schwarz.

In the cohort classes of grade 5 we are working on a theater project called “Hans im Glück”. We wrote a little script about this German fairy tale. We will work the next weeks on the realization of the play. Let us surprise you! In the meantime, why don’t you ask your child which character he likes best and why Hans is happy although he has nothing left?

The German team wishes you and your family a wonderful winter holiday!
Stay healthy and a happy new year 2019!

Schöne Ferien! News from the German Classroom

Dear 5 Grade parents,

Over the last few weeks, we have worked with the unit “In der Stadt” (In the city). In classroom students have expand their vocabulary, grammar and speaking skills around this unit. They acted out a variety of dialogues and created their own song to apply the correct grammar and verbal choices.

As a reflection of learning, children have completed their assessments, which will be send home with them after the fall break. Please sign them and send them back to school once you have been through them with your child.

Herzlich Willkommen

Dear Families,
A warm welcome to Grade 5! My name is Cindya Limantara-Plähn, and I look forward to being your child‘s German teacher this school year.
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I’m originally from Germany and grew up bilingually (German & Indonesian). I have taught elementary and middle schools in Germany, as well in ZIS as a substitute teacher (lower school). I graduated from the University of Hamburg (Germany) with a teaching degree.
Before my husband and I moved to Switzerland 7 years ago, we lived in Singapore and India, where my first daughter was born. It was in India where I discovered my passion for yoga, and enjoyed qualifying as a yoga teacher. My second daughter was born here in Switzerland, and both my children enjoy being at ZIS.
Aside from teaching, I also love to be in nature with my family (especially water activities), photography, creative arts, learning something new, and of course, hop on my yoga mat.
I am really excited to be a part of ZIS and am very much looking forward to working with you and your child this year.
Kind regards,
Cindya
